PESSCL Surveys:

Thank you to all Schools for helping to complete this years PESSCL survey. The results have all now been sent off to the Dfes and DCMS for collation. The official results do not come out until around October time but as a partnership it looks as though we will of reached the governments PSA target of at least 85% of all pupils doing at least 2 hours of high quality PE & School Sport per week. The partnerships estimated figure is 89%, up from 81% last year. In the new academic year I will send out an individual school breakdown to all Headteachers.

Diary of Festivals / Competitions for 2008/9:

“I HAVE NOW ADDED APPROXIMATE TIMES”

Attached to this email is a list of all of our planned events / festivals for next academic year. Please take the time to look and the dates and maybe enter the ones that interest your school into next years diary. You could also pin this up in the staffroom so that everyone knows when things are planned to happen. We will try our best to stick to all of these dates, but one or two may change slightly!

Tri Golf Festival:

Unfortunately due to the poor weather, this years event had to be cancelled on Wednesday. With diaries very tight for this academic year, we are now hoping to hold the event on Wednesday 1st October 2008. Further info on this event will be posted in the new term, although we can confirm that it will again be 1-3pm and held at Samuel Ward.

Wake Up and Shake Up

In September, with Lottery funding, we will be launching Wake Up and Shake Up.

Wake Up and Shake Up is a selection of routines created by a West Country SSCo, Ruth Mitchell, to provide children with short energising bouts of physical activity. The routines, all done to popular music, get children moving their bodies and feeling “awake”. A small space is all that is needed- a playground if being followed by a whole school or a classroom if being done by a class. The “Wake up and Shake up” lasts about 5 minutes and can be done first thing in the morning, in assembly, following a break or whenever is convenient to schools.

Training for Wake Up and Shake Up will take place in September. During the training you will be introduced to some of the routines, shown the resources and see a group of children learning the set patterns and then improvising their own moves.

Schools who then wish to adopt Wake Up and Shape up will receive the music CD and DVD as well as a “Boogie box” to play the music on.
